Aug 29: arriving in Ocean City

Aug 29, Thurs:  Maryland
The trip through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel wasn't as scarry as thought.  You go over the water, into a tunnel, over the water again, and through another tunnel for 17 miles.  We were instructed to turn off the propane (good idea).  We saw no leaks!  and Blue hid in his up front "cave".

Gas remains steady at $3.49 but look at the cigaretts prices in Virginia.......Marlboro
at $36.99/carton.  Ace,must be a generic brand, at $29.99/carton.  Should have bought a ton of them.

Maryland is around the 37th state we have motorhomed through. We are at a pavillon to do this blog since no internet at our campsite and, in our old age, cannot remember exactly how many states to date!

Camped at campground called Treasure Beach in Fenwick Island.  It's 1,000 sites with only 40 that are transient!  Weird but nice.  Pool looks good and will try out tomorrow as well as the Ocean City boardwalk and more seafood.  Let the feast begin!!!!
Dinner was at the Lobster Shanty, Fenwick Island.  See scrumptous pictures of Roger's oysters and clams!
Approaching the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

turn right to an amazing bridge/tunnel structure

Blue's "hiding" place in the motorhome!

Entering the first tunnel.  Roger's company, Morrison Knudson, built the tunnel boring way back in the 70's or 80's.

                                                                 Look ma, no leaks!
After coming out of the first tunnel, you can see the break in the over the water tunnel showing the next tunnel under the bay.

For real, cig cartons, Marlboro at $36.99 in Virginia.

Pina colada with Myers floater, and a Margarita as appetizers.

oysters

clams

Gretchen's lobster/shrimp bisque that was fabulous.

Happy and safe labor day to all our friends and family.

Aug 28: VA Beach last day

Thursday:  8/28.  We extended our stay one more night to enjoy the weather.  Took the trolley downtown for a wonderful meal of oysters and clams.  One note on the noise here:  there is an Navy station here and all day they fly F/A 18 Super Hornet fighter jets.  It's called the "Sound of Freedom".
The trolley to Atlantic Ave - downtown VA Beach.  $2.00/person = ride all day.

Roger contemplating how to get to the ocean without getting all that sand on his feet!

Oysters and clams that were the greatest.  This is a must stop if you are ever in Virginia Beach.
Gretchen elated cuz she finally got into the ocean.

Roger as seen from the ocean!

F/A 18 fighter jets over the beach.

Don't know what this says.  Anyone want to guess?
Gretchen doing what she enjoys the best........pool time!

HI!!!  Water is great.  Come on in.

Aug 27th: Virginia Beach

We have arrived and did nothing!  The drive was a hard, long one through mountain roads and traffic conjestion for over 5 hours.  Needless to say we were both a "little" touchy when we got here!  Dinner, fire, and then bed for a well needed rest.

Fancy Gap, Virginia KOA.  Peaceful and restful and beautiful.
Blue at the K9 Kabin at Virginia Beach KOA where he declared "his" territory several times.

Garlic shrimp dinner Roger made from the shrimp from the low country boil at Bristol.

Partaking of the garlic shrimp dinner.

Blue's bone treat.  How spoiled is he that he has a big, fat pillow at the campsite?
For some reason he likes to sit on the rocks in the 80 degree sun.  But look how pretty he looks!

Bristol Aug 21-24

What a great time in Bristol!  We had so much good food that included low country boil, the traditional breakfast of bacon, eggs, hash browns, pulled pork, steak, potatoes, and much, much more.  Anywhere from 6 to 14 race fans enjoyed beautiful weather, food, moon shine, and friendship.  Even met some great Canadians (hey, guess where they were from?).

There were three races (Wednesday, Friday, and the biggy on Saturday).  A pool was made up for the Saturday race and both of us won with Matt Kenseth.  Even nephew Christopher won one of the money spots.

They're everywhere, they're everywhere.

Bristol Racetrack:  our first glimpse driving to the campsite

Just the beginning at the campsite.  That's Roger and Sam unloading his golf cart.  Can you find the Blue?

Close your eyes if you are screamish cuz this is one really ugly spider who was pregnant and Gretchen was instructed to step on it and out came a hundred babies!!!!  Spray finished them off.  Give me a shot of that moonshine now!

Low country boil:  shrimp, corn, potatoes, sausage:  all served on newspaper.

The "boys" getting on the bus to go to the race on Friday.  Gretchen yelled to take care of her kids!

Two really tired face fans.  Can you see Christopher and Alan?

Winner's Celebration entrance ticket where you go down on the track and see the winner.

Good old steak dinner before the Saturday race.
Roger and Darlene having what looks like a serious conversation.  Not!

These are volumteers since our President slashed the budget for fly overs.

So Roger couldn't find Gretchen's head phones.  Hey, Rog, use your head!

Winner's Celebration with Chris and Alan on the track

Squeal marks and Chris's feet!

Alan on the right, Chris's back on the left under the start/finish flag stand.

The winner:  Matt Kenseth.  Thanks Matt for the win!

Here is what you see for miles on Route 58 in southern Virginia:  Christmas trees...it's beginning to look a lot like...............
