Sept 23rd: Home Sweet Home

Sept 23rd, Monday:  After a night at Watkins Glenn KOA, which is very beautiful and we hope to get back there during the summer, we headed for home.  Always feel anxious to get back to the home during the last day so we drove 8 hours.

Five weeks, 4,000+ miles, 8 new states, and much seafood food, we finished our New England trip.  And Blue was soooo happy to be home that he ran around the yard about a hundred times!  How lucky we are to be able to travel the United States, safely.  Spend 5 weeks in a motorhome with your spouse and come home still in love!!!

The end now but more motorhome adventures await us as we look forward to our last two states next year - to Oregon and Washington.

The Gorge at Watkins Glen.  Two falls further down but we were too tired to make the walk!

Blue's last rest area walk.  Just a-smelling and a-pissing!

Almost there.

Home sweet home.

Sept 21: Michigan vs UCONN

Sept 21, Saturday:  On the way to the game was a stop at an American Legion in Hope Valley, RI for Roger to exchange plates.  Another friendly legion in a beautiful spot on the lake.

Then the tailgate after we picked up Angelo and Mary Beth. Roger had made pulled pork and MaryBeth and Angelo brought scumptous wings that was an ordeal for them to find. After several stops they were able to get them. Looked like wings aren't the thing in Connecticut!

The game: what can be said for 4 turnovers? Luckily for an interception and a good field goal, Michigan was again for the 2nd week in a row, and walk away with a "W". 24-21. Largest crowd meant that they brought in more bleachers. But we weren't in for the lobster on a hotdog with macaroni and cheese!

View from the American Legion.  Nice beach and the little girl found that it really wasn't that cold to get into the water - clothes and all!  Oh to be a kid again.....

At one time, Roger paid $4.09/gallon for gas.

The kick off

Morning after.....a night at Cabelas which worked out good since it as right across the street from the stadium and saved us at least an hour drive to a campsight.  At least there were trees!

Sept 19/20: Mystic bar hopping

Sept 19/20 Thursday/Friday:  Thursday was recouperating night at the campsite, fire and all,  after a tour of a nuclear submarine and another seafood meal at Daniel Patricks which wasn't that good.  Good atmosphere, though, in the lower area of the house with only 7 tables.

Bill is looking to trade in his Little Guy for a Bigger Guy called the TAB.  Looks like he will be able to do that this week.  Big plus is a shower/potty!!!!

Friday was Mystic bar hopping (final total bars was seven) after a delicious meal at the Oyster Club where we met the owner, Dan.  He explained that the Rentschler Stadium wil be impressive although only holding 40,000.  They will have some great good to include lobster rolls and BEER!

Top off the night with a pizza at Mystic Pizza where Julia Roberts filmed a movie and put this pizza joint on the map!

Breaker 1 9 how's it looking over your shoulder?

You have to be might small to fit into one of these bunks.

Oyster Club was fantastic.  Across the street was the Voodoo Bar where we started our Mystic bar hopping.

Oyster Club oysters, of course.

A dive bar called John's.  Bar #4.  We had hit the Azu before this while waiting for Roger to return the car rental.

Sept 18th: Mystic, Ct Bill arrives

Sept 18th, Wednesday:  We are back in Mystic, Connecticut for four restful nights.  Our bestest Michigan friend, Bill, has arrived with his Little Guy camper and after his great Manhattans, we head to the river front for dinner at S&P Co.  On the Mystic River and was a good meal of lobster roll for Gretchen, lobster for Bill, and oysters for Roger.   Our tailgate friends from Michigan, Angelo and Mary Beth also arrived today and met us for dinner.  It was like old tail gate times in Michigan!
Mystic KOA with patio and grill.  Roger is getting to make  pizza on the grill.

Hi Bill.  He's concentrating on making some great Manhattans.  Notice the glasses, with the lone star,  that we got when we were in Dallas for the game last year against Alabama.

A Manhattan toast.

Sept 16th: Martha's Vineyard

Sept 16th, Monday.  A ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard.  Many stores now closed but we did find a VFW (no American Legion's here).  Oak Bluffs is lined with gingerbread-style houses, very quaint and costs millions!

Disappointed in the Lookout Tavern, an eating place recommended by Fodors.  View was good, looking out at the Nantucket Sound, but the lobster bisque was horrible.  Then Gretchen tried to order a Bushmills but the waittress said they were out.  However, we could SEE the bottle on the shelf!  Weird.  When a gentleman came around, he turned out to be the owner and we told him of the Bushmill's mystery.  Apparently a computer glich and he immediately brought Gretchen her drink, no charge.  Now that's how to treat a thirsty customer!
The ferry to Martha's.

Breakfast on the ferry:  beer, wine, and a donut!

Leaving Falmouth.

Flying Horses Carousel considered to be the oldest working carousel in the country.  Built in 1876 at Coney Island.  Intricate hand carving and real horsehair manes, with glass eyes that have tiny animal charms glint within. Picture was taken through the window cuz it was closed (ran by the kids who are back in school). Gretchen was disappointed not to be able to see what was her favorite ride.
Gingerbread-style house in Martha's.

Say that five times real fast (as we did when we were kids!)

Okay, now you can see the Bushmills on the shelf that wasn't supposed to be there.

It was cool and misty so Gretchen just had to get another sweatshirt.

New hat from the VFW in Martha's Vineyard.

World War II vet at the VFW.  Thank you for your service.

Ferry back to Falmouth.

Leaving Martha's.

Nantucket Sound taken from the ferry with Martha's Vineyard on the right.
