Sept 14/15: Maple sugar, Budweiser

Sept 14/15:  Saturday, Sunday:  We are on our way to Sugarbush Cheese and Maple Syrup Farm, in Woodstock VT. This drive couldn't have been more hairy, winding through country roads that seem to get steeper and narrower. We looked at one another at one point and wondered if we should take the motorhome through these roads!  But we did.  Not before we listened to Michigan almost lose to Akron U.  Yikes what an embarrassment.  Sometimes it's just hard to be a Wolverine....

Tidbits:  Vermont:  small farms and villages with white churches.  Population has always been small.  The roller-coaster landscape if difficult to farm, winters are bitter and summers are short.  Vermont is famous for maple syrup and each autumn, "leaf peepers" by the mlllions invade the state.  The first ski town was set up in Woodstock in 1934

Tidbit #2:  New Hampshire:  Politics today are "grass-roots".  The state scorns income tax and sales tax, preferring to raise money by taxing liquor and betting.  State motto:  Live free or die.  The rest of this Revolutionary rallying cry is "death is not the worst of evils."  You will see many USA flags on residential, commercial, and campground property.  God bless America.

None, again.  We figured that Alaska had an abundance of these signs and sold them cheaply to Vt and NH.

The country road to the maple farm.

more aweful road.  Look at the center lines that aren't no longer! and the road edge as no lines.

And then out of the blue, is this great home.  White rockers on the porch just make you want to stop for some lemonade (spiked, of course).

Haverhill, NH, founded 1763, has this monument in middle of town that memoralizes the slain in the revolution war.

Covered bridge.

So we are back onto another country road to the maple syrup farm.

Holy, moly, we still aren't to the farm!

The working farm produces cheese and maple syrup.  There is no automation.  The family and locals come to help harvest, bottle, and ship maple syrup and cheese.

Weather pole as seen below!

Hey, Grechen that is definately NOT a moose!

These stone fences are seen throughout VT and NH.  Reminds us of Ireland and sure enough we find out there was an Irish influence here.  We were told that you are not to disturb these stones.  Why?  don't know.  Some are new, some are overgrown so you know that they have been there for a long time.

Another covered bridge but this time it is 10 feet and our motorhome is 12 1/2 feet.  A turn around that wasn't that easy to do but master Roger did it!

Heading to our campsite in the forest at Swanzy, NH.  Yes, that is a lobster staring at you!

The campsite.  Blue is trying to figure out what's under the motorhome!

Getting ready to cook steaks.

Is he tired or what?  Is he cute or what?

Roger applying that last New England state of Vermont.  New England is all filled in now.

Dublin, NH center of town.  Pretty, isn't it?  Typical towns in NH.

Ok.  This is Sunday and this is a picture of NH liquour agency that is not only open but has Gretchen's sky vodka on sale for $19.99!  Buy 'em up, Roger!

New Hampshire 's revolutionary cry:  Live Free or Die.  When we were at the camp above in Swanzy, most of the seasonal's, and there were plenty of them, flew the flag.  It was a great sight to see.

American Legion #98, Merrimack, NH.  Roger gets another post plate and we have a delicious breakfast.

Dedicated to all of Gretchen's female Leo's!

Guess what?  In Merrimack, NH.  This brewery as well as all but one other brewery was built by Roger's company.  Thought we would go there and toast our friends, Laura and Buzzy, who drink Budweiser!

66,000 six packs of beer in this storage tank.  Equals 181 years of one six-packs a day!  Drunk up!

Beer on its way to Portage Lakes?

Free beer at the end of the tour.

More free beer and pretzels.

Pete, the Clysdale.

King, another Clysdale.  The dalmation, Bud was roaming the grounds.
