Sept 16th: Martha's Vineyard

Sept 16th, Monday.  A ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard.  Many stores now closed but we did find a VFW (no American Legion's here).  Oak Bluffs is lined with gingerbread-style houses, very quaint and costs millions!

Disappointed in the Lookout Tavern, an eating place recommended by Fodors.  View was good, looking out at the Nantucket Sound, but the lobster bisque was horrible.  Then Gretchen tried to order a Bushmills but the waittress said they were out.  However, we could SEE the bottle on the shelf!  Weird.  When a gentleman came around, he turned out to be the owner and we told him of the Bushmill's mystery.  Apparently a computer glich and he immediately brought Gretchen her drink, no charge.  Now that's how to treat a thirsty customer!

Breakfast on the ferry:  beer, wine, and a donut!

Leaving Falmouth.

Flying Horses Carousel considered to be the oldest working carousel in the country.  Built in 1876 at Coney Island.  Intricate hand carving and real horsehair manes, with glass eyes that have tiny animal charms glint within. Picture was taken through the window cuz it was closed (ran by the kids who are back in school). Gretchen was disappointed not to be able to see what was her favorite ride.

Say that five times real fast (as we did when we were kids!)

Okay, now you can see the Bushmills on the shelf that wasn't supposed to be there.

It was cool and misty so Gretchen just had to get another sweatshirt.

New hat from the VFW in Martha's Vineyard.

World War II vet at the VFW.  Thank you for your service.
